the reign of King Charles II, this star-shaped fort was garrisoned by the British army until 1922.
Charles Fort offers breath-taking panoramic views of Kinsale town and harbour, and looks out onto
the Old Head of Kinsale. Standing on the banks of Charles Fort you can see James Fort across the
bay; together these two forts served as guardians to Kinsale’s harbour.
